About Indian Institute of Sustainability, Ahmedabad

Indian Institute of Sustainability (IIS) was founded by Gujarat University in 2020 to provide courses that would prepare students to become professionals who would strive toward a more environmentally and socially responsible society. There are research programmes, educational courses, and training to improve the students' abilities in the areas of sustainable finance and economy, environment and climate, agriculture and forestry, etc.

Indian Institute of Sustainability's goals are as follows:

To become a hub for collaboration, exchange of knowledge, and technical advancements for sustainable development.
To understand how human activities affect natural resources such as air, water, forests, soil, etc., and look for opportunities for development without causing further environmental harm.
Align the institution's actions with the objectives of sustainable development.
Work on projects related to the sustainable development goals with international institutions through cooperative research, collaboration, fundraising, and technology transfer.
Launch academic programmes to produce skilled labour that will support sustainable growth in the areas of agriculture, rural development, the environment, smart cities, and other financial activities.

Additionally, facilities are made available for use in course programmes that encourage innovative and practical research on a sustainable way of life.

Indian Institute of Sustainability, Ahmedabad Placements

The institute's placement coordinators reach out to other industries and invite them to conduct placement drives at the institution. The placement cell has on-site registration for recruiters and students. IIS Ahmedabad also provides walk-in interviews on campus.

Indian Institute of Sustainability, Ahmedabad Campus Facilities and Infrastructure

IIS is situated at the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Extension Research and Innovation inside the Gujarat University Ahmedabad campus. The campus is equipped with a hostel, library, sports facilities, etc. During exams, students who arrive from other cities are given additional considerations. For students staying at Gujarat University Ahmedabad campus, events including tree-planting, an annual function, cultural activities, and a medical checkup camp are held in the dorms.

Hostels are available to postgraduate students, with rooms designated for boys, girls, and international students. The dormitories have their own canteen and mess facilities in addition to the one on the main Gujarat University Ahmedabad campus. The GU Ahmedabad library, one of the largest in the State, is open to IIS students and has one of the largest collections of academic books, periodicals, journals, newspapers, magazines, manuscripts, theses, and online resources. There is a well-known, modern sports complex called the Sardar Patel Sports City (SPSC), which has a pool, facilities for track and field competitions, shooting ranges, etc.

IIS Ahmedabad Campus Facilities

Library: In order to meet its current and future needs, Gujarat University Ahmedabad created one of the largest university library systems in the state. As IIS is located inside the Gujarat University campus the students can utilise this library. The library has more than 400000 volumes, 300000 journals and electronic resources, 4000 theses, more than 2000 pieces of open access content, and 42 manuscripts.

Hostel: Students who live outside of a 40-kilometre radius of Gujarat University and are enrolled in one of its graduate programmes are eligible for hostel accommodations based on merit. There are rooms for one person, two people, and three people. In the dormitories, there is a separate mess and canteen service. Each room comes equipped with a table, chair, bed, and closet for each student. Each block also has amenities including a telephone, newspaper, water cooler, and television.

Sports: The Sardar Patel Sports City (SPSC) at Gujarat University Ahmedabad is an international-level sports facility that includes a synthetic athletic track with a stadium, a football field, running tracks for the 100-metre hurdles, the 400-metre hurdles, the 4x100-metre relay, the 4x400-metre relay, and the 800-metre events, as well as facilities for including a tennis court, an indoor sports complex, a swimming pool, a shooting range, a gym, a training room, and a recreation area.

EMRC: The University Grants Commission (UGC) created 23 Educational Multimedia Research Centres around India with the goal of producing high-calibre television programmes for higher education. EMRC, Ahmedabad is one of those centres.

PIER: With funding support from the Government of Gujarat, IIS Ahmedabad has established the Park for Industrial Extension and Research (PIER). The PIER will be the first research and innovation park of its sort in the nation and the first for any university in the nation. It is designed to serve as a focus for innovation, academic-industry partnerships, and industrial research on a worldwide scale.

LMS: The IIS Ahmedabad has its own Learning Management System that is an online lecture and academic management system. The LMS hosts 62 subject-specific topics, more than 21000 static e-content modules, more than 19000 videos, more than 3000 additional learning resources, an online evaluation system, and an online assignment system.
